I finally got all the stuff I needed to finish this lantern. I made it for the Steampunk Festival's exhibition in Gävle, Sweden this summer.
Going to make a weapon and a monster for the exhibition also. ^^

The octopus is made of latex and the lantern also lights up a bit, pictures of that seen below.

Thanks for stopping by! :D

On may way looking through your gallery I finally know why I always thought that there is something missing on this lantern. Maybe my advice can help you let your metal-corrosion look more natural. (still the color of the rust looks really realistic)

Since I work with corroded metal objects and know how they look after lying around the outside a few month this lantern "corrodes" a bit different. It's varnished and varnished metal object corrode in layers. First it gets scratches, the water flows inside and the varnish comes of the surface like you can see in this picture static.zoonar.de/img/www_repos… The corrosion is underneath the varnish and varnish spalls of when it starts to corrode on the metal surface :)
I don't know how to make it look like that and hands down, your work is amazing!
I know everything is possible in the fantasy world and it's hard to say "realistic looking" while there is an octopus lying inside this lantern :D But maybe this is helpful for the next time.

Greetings from your new stalker, Rhoda :P
